Martyn Wilson Reserve, Auckland
CleanStream NZ’s low-impact dredging method was the perfect fit for the brackish stormwater pond located between sports fields and residents’ backyards. Nestled within a well-established neighbourhood, Martyn Wilson Reserve’s tidal attenuation pond had rapidly accumulated a large amount of silt since its construction in 2012. It was at the point where an island had formed through the centre of the pond. During low tides, the highly organic silt was exposed, releasing unpleasant odours to waft around the surrounding properties. The park’s grounds are utilised for sport year-round and is a busy thoroughfare for pedestrians. CleanStream NZ’s agile dredging setup meant the park could stay open throughout the winter operation. Although we had a tight space to work in, dredging and dewatering operations yielded 525m3 of in-situ silt in just over 20 working days for Auckland Council.
